Safety
A good final result needs a safe and reliable foundation. The weight of the object, the number of suspension points, the wire type and material, and the environment around the object all affect both the result and the safety. A suspended luminaire, sign or artwork often hangs above people for many years, so these factors need to be right from the start.
We support you at every stage
A challenge when installing a suspended object is making sure the suspension is correct and safe. We often get questions about tolerances, adjustability, mounting and the visual result. We address all of these when we develop a wire suspension solution with you. We verify the solution at an early stage, which reduces uncertainty both for the installation and for long-term performance.
Testing and validation
Safety is not only about testing individual components. A wire suspension system should be designed, tested and validated as a complete solution. That is why we test in-house and trace every production batch.
- Rated as a complete assembly. Our load figures apply to the wire and gripper together. At larger diameters the gripper, not the wire, governs capacity.
- 5:1 safety factor. The working load limit is one fifth of the tested minimum breaking load, the established coefficient for wire rope and rope terminations in European practice. Example: a Ø 1.5 mm assembly has a minimum breaking load of 90 kg and a working load limit of 18 kg.
- Tensile tested. All figures are established by tensile testing of original Alemtek products, in-house or by an independent third party.
- Every gripper checked. We check the locking mechanism of every wire gripper before delivery, so each gripper you install locks reliably.
- Traceable. Every production batch is tested and documented, and every component can be traced.
- Certified processes. Our quality management system has been certified to ISO 9001 since 2009.
We supply test reports and certificates for complete technical documentation. A well-tested suspension also makes your objects easier to mount. Read more about our design and testing process.
When the ratings apply
The figures in our weight guidelines apply when:
- the load is static – the systems are not lifting accessories
- the wire hangs vertically, or the reduction factor for angled wires is applied
- the installation is indoors, between -20°C and +50°C
- the wire protrudes at least 25 mm from the gripper exit under load
- all components in the assembly are original Alemtek parts
Our safety information covers inspection, installation and environments in full.
Our standard grippers are rated for the loads in our weight guidelines. A large part of our range also has extra safety features for projects that need an additional layer of security, for example public spaces or local requirements for fixtures above people:
- grippers with a safety cap that prevents unintended release of the wire
- hook grippers with a safety latch that keeps the object in the hook
- fork grippers with a safety spring that keep the gripper attached to the object
See examples of grippers with extra locking. For objects with a high drop risk, you can add a safety wire as secondary suspension.
